18 km from Cutro to Le Castella, the first stage of the Via del Mare. You leave the wheat fields and clay badlands around Cutro and the coast slowly takes over. You arrive at Le Castella, one of the best known places on the Crotone coast, where the Aragonese fortress seems to rise straight out of the sea. Its walls look over the fishing harbour, and in the square a bronze bust remembers Uccialì, the Ottoman admiral born here in 1519.
