28 km from Mesoraca to Cutro, the last stage of the Via Sacra. Paths run through the silver green of the olives and golden wheat fields, and the Ionian starts to show on the horizon. Cutro was the ancient Kyterion, the town of clay, and Pasolini filmed scenes of his Gospel According to Matthew among its long badlands. In Piazza Giò Leonardo di Bona a giant chessboard hosts a living chess match every year; the square is named for the Cutro chess champion of the 1500s.
