From the church of Maria SS. del Soccorso you leave Monterosso Calabro through olive groves to Lake Angitola. Inside the nature reserve, run by WWF Vibo Valentia, you walk past the lake where grey herons, the symbol of the Serre park, rest and breed. A climb leads to Rocca Angitola, the ruins of a Norman town destroyed by an earthquake. On the way down to Pizzo, on clear days, you see the whole Gulf of Sant'Eufemia, Stromboli and the Orsomarso mountains. You end in Pizzo's old town, by the Aragonese castle and Piazza della Repubblica, then down to the Marina beach. Watch out for loose dogs near the farm before the climb. About 19 km.
