14 km from Staiti to Palizzi, on the first stage of the Sentiero dell'Inglese, named after Edward Lear, who walked here in the 19th century. You get views over the Valle degli Armeni and eastern Aspromonte, oak and young pine woods, then maquis with cistus and broom to the 12th century Chiesa della Madonna dell'Alica above dry stone terraces. You pass Pietrapennata, which Lear loved, and reach Palizzi under its castle.
