Centro costiero, ubicato in pianura e di antiche origini. Conserva un ricchissimo patrimonio architettonico. La basilica del Santo Sepolcro, fondata nel sec. XI, fu completamente riedificata alla fine del Duecento in forme gotico-borgognone.
